You won't believe what I put in the icing!

My baby is one!  What a year. Becoming a mom has been the most wonderful experience of my life and so much fun! I just threw Harley her first birthday party and a lot of you have asked me to share her birthday cake recipe, so here it is + details about her party! You won't believe what I put it the icing…

At the party, after we sang Happy Birthday and blew out her candle, Harley's grandma (my Mom!) took the white icing off of her cake and put it directly into her mouth! And of course… Harley loved it. Haha.

Let's spend the day together!

I'm excited to announce that I'll be leading an all-day workshop in Toronto on Sunday, May 20th and I'd LOVE for you to come!  

This is my VERY FIRST TIME speaking at a Hay House event, something I've been dreaming about forever! I feel so honored to have this opportunity.

This is not your average event… this is an intensive 5-hour workshop and something I've never done before. We will spend the entire day together during this intimate event. I'll be speaking about some topics that I've been researching extensively over the last two years: The playbook the food industry uses to trick us. They are feeding us lies! I've got some really great news!

This week we finished a very fun video shoot for my new company Truvani. In case you haven't heard, we recently got back the glyphosate test results on our first product (a USDA certified organic daily turmeric supplement) and it came back clean! Yeah! This is great news because glyphosate is the active ingredient in Monsanto's weed killer Roundup, which is contaminating crops everywhere. Residues of this controversial chemical have been found in dozens of popular foods from the grocery store, even some organic products. That is NOT going to be us! We will have the Glyphosate Residue Free label on all our bottles when they ship out in February, which is so cool. (We just opened up the pre-order page again, if you'd like to order to get in for February.)

And, I'm excited to say two new products are also in development! I cannot divulge what they are quite yet but it's what a lot of you have asked for next… stay tuned for updates. We are getting so close! Watch our latest video update here.

Starting Truvani has really opened my eyes to all the dealings (good and bad) involved in creating food products. As I'm seeking out ingredient suppliers, I can't tell you how many times I've been told: "Using that ingredient will increase costs"...or, "Those are the most expensive ingredients"...  

They think it is all about the bottom line. And, you know what I tell them?...

So what! I want to put the absolute BEST ingredients in my products and I refuse to cut corners.

This is the Food Babe lifestyle. Sugar bombs in healthy organic food...

Does this describe you?

You work out. You try to eat a healthy diet. And you do your best to avoid bad additives in your food. Meanwhile, your favorite pants are uncomfortable, you feel tired all the time, and you're moody. What gives?

The truth is that the very foods that you've been told are good for you are actually flooding your body with a substance that is sabotaging all your hard work! That substance is SUGAR, and it goes by dozens of sneaky names.

  • A large green salad topped with Briannas Blush Wine Vinaigrette contains 14 grams of sugar in just the dressing alone.
  • A sandwich made with two slices of Pepperidge Farm Whole Grain Honey Wheat spread with Jif Peanut Butter (Reduced Fat) and Cascadian Farm Organic Strawberry Fruit Spread has about 22 grams of sugar.

The results are in!

I bet you ate this today (Let me know!)

I know that it's super rare for me to send an email on the weekend… but I just had a thought that couldn't wait. I want to challenge you to try something…

Keep a list of all of sugar you eat and count the grams for the next couple of days and add it all up. That's it. Don't change your diet or think too hard about it.

All you need is a pen... piece of paper... and about 10 minutes. Here's what to do:

  1. For each snack or meal, simply write down what you eat. I recommend doing this either as you eat or while preparing it.
  2. Then, use the food labels to count the sugar grams of that meal. Look on the nutrition facts label for "Sugars." 
  3. At the end of the day, add it all up.

Were you surprised? I want to know!

Most people find out they're eating double… triple… even 10 times more sugar than they thought. When I did this a couple years ago, I was shocked at how much sugar is hidden in everyday "healthy" foods. I honestly couldn't believe the results and it freaked me out considering how carefully I eat.

The #1 ingredient to avoid.

What is the worst additive in our food?

I'm sorry to tell you this… but you probably already ate some of it today.

If you've tried to quit sugar in the past with no luck, don't blame yourself. The real problem is NOT your willpower. It's the fact that sugar itself is more addictive than cocaine!

In a recent scientific study, scientists compared the addictive properties of sugar and cocaine. They put groups of rats in two different mazes. In one maze, the rats could choose to go to a room filled with sugary Oreos or a room filled with bland rice cakes. In the second maze, the rats chose between a room where they were injected with cocaine or a room where they received saline injections. Can you guess which rooms the rats chose?

As you'd expect - the rats chose the rooms filled with Oreos and cocaine. But the scientists were shocked by what happened next...

When they examined the brains of the rats at the end of the study, they found that the rats who indulged on Oreos experienced MORE activation in the pleasure center of their brains than the rats injected with cocaine (well known to be one of the most addictive drugs in the world).
