Getting out of a slump

Over the last few months, sticking to my health routines wasn't easy. 

(And being in the first trimester of my pregnancy didn't help lol!)

I skipped workouts, ate more comfort food, and slept in more. 

After a few weeks, most of my health routines were wiped out. 

I did cut myself some slack…

But soon, "a little bit of slack" turned into thinking about giving up. 

Thankfully, after venting to a few of my friends, I realized two things:

First - I wasn't alone!

Many of my friends felt the same way!

This made me feel a little better… knowing that it wasn't just ME struggling to stay on top of things.

And second…

It was time to hit the RESET button!

So, I started waking up earlier, exercising every day, and I tossed out (almost) everything I'd been snacking on…

I felt better… my fog vanished… my energy came back… and I felt the urge to be productive again. 

Sometimes a reset is all you need.

This is kind of embarrassing

This might surprise you. When I first started eating healthy I kept a giant container of Crisco Shortening in my kitchen cabinet for a very, very long time. 

I remember seeing the Crisco from time to time - and I'm not sure what motivated me to keep it - but at the time I felt like it would be wasteful to throw it out. 

And then I realized…

It's not real food. It's toxic. It causes death. (trans fatty oils are linked to so many deaths per year!)

So why keep it?

That's when I promptly got rid of that can of Crisco and never looked back. And, I didn't stop there. My kitchen still had stuff like this in it: 

  • Heinz Ketchup sweetened with high fructose corn syrup
  • Irradiated spices contaminated with pesticides
  • PAM cooking spray full of heart-wrecking canola oil and "silly putty"
  • Pickles artificially dyed with yellow #5 made from petroleum
  • Baking powder with aluminum

I did a big sweep and got rid of it all… and replaced everything with safe alternatives. Since doing this, I've never felt better! It's so much easier to eat healthfully when your cabinets are not full of toxic junk. 

Perhaps you still have processed junk clogging up your cabinets? Well, I hope to motivate you to clean it out! Especially since we are all spending more time in our kitchens than ever during this time, it is critical that we focus on providing the best food for ourselves and our families.

Making food this weekend? you need to open this

Back in the day, 4th of July to me was a big BBQ with hot dogs, potato salad from the supermarket, and popsicles full of artificial colors and corn syrup. 

Eating this type of food - even just on a holiday - made me feel horrible. I had a food hangover, my face looked puffy, and I was tired all the time. 

I've since learned that it's not worth it to sacrifice my health and weight with additive-filled processed foods on holidays - and now I've figured out how to celebrate with fun and festive food that is actually healthy. 

Healthy food doesn't need to be boring...
