I am taking my own medicine.

I can't express how thankful I am for all of your well wishes on the birth of my baby girl. Those of you who have taken the time to send me a note, I want you to know that I read them all and appreciate you so much - so, thank you. You truly are an amazing community! Little Harley has been sleeping, breastfeeding well, and we're getting into a routine and cherishing every minute.

As I sit here at home hanging out with my beautiful newborn, I am so excited to start feeling like my old self again. I'm sure all you other mamas out there can relate! Being pregnant and giving birth is NO JOKE and takes a serious toll on the body. While I know it will take time, I also know that I'll get there.

One of the things that I'm really looking forward to is fitting back into all of the clothes sitting in my closet - but I have about 10-15 more pounds to lose to get there. For me, losing the extra weight after having the baby isn't about aesthetics - but rather about feeling good about myself and comfortable in my own skin - (and I don't want to buy a whole new wardrobe either!)

To get back in shape, the first thing I'm doing is staying away from sugar.

How to eat more raw greens when it's so cold outside!

If you've read my book The Food Babe Way, you'd know that eating raw foods like leafy green salads and veggie sticks are one of the habits that I live by. Once I started eating this way, I was no longer a prisoner to sweet cravings - those vanished, along with ravenous afternoon hunger.

I craved vegetables instead. I couldn't get enough broccoli, spinach, kale, carrots, and fresh salads. I wanted green juice all the time. I dreamt of apples. My whole body was smiling. And I know that raw foods have been another factor in stabilizing my weight, leaving me with no need to rigidly diet.

In the winter, I tend to eat more cooked foods than I do in the spring or summer. It's only natural in the winter to crave warmer and heavier foods - like soups, cooked grains, warming spices like ginger, and cooked root vegetables like sweet potatoes and beets. Your body is trying to keep warm, so don't fight against it! It's best to eat with the seasons so that you are working with your body and giving it what it needs throughout the year.

As it has been getting kinda cold around here, I'm still jonesing for lots of greens during the day, but want something warm and comforting at the same time. That's why I combine hot and cold foods! I'll usually do this by combining something raw (like leafy greens) with something cooked at every meal. I love eating this way because you get a mega-dose of nutrition from raw, organic food, and you still get to enjoy warm cooked foods throughout the day. For instance, if you're having a big raw salad for lunch, top it with cooked lentils and finish it off with a cup of warm ginger tea.

I thought I would share with you some of my favorite warm but detoxing salads that are perfect for those of you that don't feel like eating a cold salad in the winter! These salads will help you stay warm (and healthy!) this winter season:

Here is how not to FAIL in 2017.

Happy New Year! 2017 is here – and this is the time where I used to always want to lose weight (those holiday sweets don't work off themselves!)… I have a hunch that you know what I'm talking about too.

The gyms get CRAZY, wellness books jump to the top of best seller lists, and radical diets that promise quick fixes get a lot of attention. We start doing all sorts of things we don't intend on doing for the rest of our lives. And this is where the problem lies with new year's resolutions.

Did you know that only about 8% of people keep their New Year's Resolutions? That is a bit maddening isn't it? We all start the year off with the best intentions, but all too often life gets in the way, excuses begin, and we are back to our old ways. It can seem like we are just spinning our wheels and will never get ahead!

Don't go crazy by setting a bunch of resolutions that you'll never keep.

Instead develop a healthy habit that you CAN keep for the rest of your life! Your health should be your number one priority for the rest of your life. Period.

Keep it simple and start with just ONE new healthy habit in 2017.

This is how I transformed my own health, one step and one day at a time. Once you have mastered your new healthy habit (which takes about 21 days to become rock solid), then go ahead and add another healthy habit. Before you know it, you will accomplish so much in 2017 that you will create it your healthiest year yet. This is how I did it and I'm going to help you get there too!

How to start your 2017 off right…

Take out a pen and paper and start brainstorming what would make you feel healthy and fantastic about your life (If you need ideas, you can pick any of the "days" in my book The Food Babe Way - for example, starting with warm lemon water in the morning).

Don't just think about it, write it down! Seeing it on paper helps motivate you to take action. Here are some questions to help you get the process going -

  • What do you struggle with the most when it comes to your diet and health?
  • Is there a specific type of food that makes you feel horrible? How does it make you feel exactly?
  • Do you want to change a certain aspect of your diet? Why?
  • What would you do to improve your health if it was impossible to fail?
  • What is holding you back from taking certain steps to improve your health?
  • What is one thing you could change about your diet that would make you feel better right away?

This little exercise will do wonders to set you up for success… After you've completed it, I want to hear from you. Simply reply to this email and tell me what you need the most help with and I'll put my best advice and solutions together to share ASAP!
