Don't shop here.

As I let you know yesterday, I'm sending 7 life changing habits for you to start in the new year, and I sent the first one yesterday… So, if you missed it, go back and find yesterday's email and make sure you read it because it's a GOOD one! And, it really sets you up for success for the rest of these tips that I'm about to send you.

Moving on to the next tip...

Healthy Habit #2: Change Your Grocery Store

Changing where I buy my groceries to a place where I can get the best quality food and produce has been fundamental in changing my health for the better. Typical large wholesale stores and conventional supermarkets are stocked with so many bad additives and unhealthy ingredients it can make your head spin.

Some conventional grocery stores include organic produce and organic convenience foods - but, they still carry Kellogg's, Little Debbie, Doritos, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, General Mills, and all the BIG FOOD brands that are full of anything but real food. This makes shopping there 10 times harder because you need to filter out all those bad products and unless you know a brand and trust it - it means reading lots of labels and deciphering chemical names of ingredients.

Here's what to do instead…

  • Look for local health food stores and alternative grocery stores in your town. Some stores now ban certain ingredients from ever hitting their shelves – such as really serious ingredients like growth hormones in dairy products that are known to cause cancer and high fructose corn syrup that is linked to diabetes and obesity.
  • You don't even need to go into a grocery store on a regular basis – you can go to the farmer's market to get local and organic produce or grow your own food as much as possible.
  • And sometimes, you don't even need to leave your house. Buying organic staples on the internet is a terrific way to save money and time. This is especially helpful if you live in a more rural area and don't have natural grocery stores nearby. I can buy organic pantry items online for up to half the price of most natural food stores. This can add up to big savings over time and is well worth the click. I buy organic coconut oil, pasta, rice, spices, nuts, dried fruit and various organic snacks on the internet all the time.

Bottom line: Support establishments that want you to be well! Vote with your dollars. And shop smart.

And remember, if you want to do something that will make a big impact on your health in the New Year, I opened up my 7-Day Sugar Detox Program. If you sign up today, you'll have all weekend to prepare and familiarize yourself with the materials, watch the videos, and plan a time to get started. Maybe you ask a friend or get your whole family on board too. You can start the program at any time, but you only have ONE week to sign up before I close the enrollment.

Here's wishing you a great weekend… and I'll be back on Monday with another habit.

To give you a hint, this one is about starting your morning off right!

Talk soon…
