One simple habit.

How do we decide what to eat when we live in a world full of toxic food? Like I said in my last email, it can be simple with a little planning and action.

Did you know there are thousands of ingredients that the FDA has approved for use, but no one has studied in over 3 decades? And no one, I repeat, no one has studied the cumulative effect of all these industrial food-scientist-created ingredients in our food system. The head of the FDA even recently admitted that they don't know how many of these food chemicals Americans are consuming.

Many of these ingredients are created by substances contaminated with carcinogens, some are used to make us addicted to non-food substances that are cheaper to produce than real food, and some are downright dangerous.

Processed food companies will tell you their "ingredient x" is completely safe and that they've reviewed the studies, but in reality they don't know the long-term impacts. Please don't fall immediately for their persuasion.

When I talk about ingredients in food and the possible effects of them – I am fighting for you to know the truth, the stuff the industry wants to hide because it makes them richer and unfortunately, us fatter and sicker. 

It's up to you if you want to use the information that is uncovered to investigate your health and food choices. I am praying you do.

Thankfully, there's one simple personal commitment you can make to reduce your exposure to these "food like" and toxic substances dramatically.

Eat 15 meals a week at home, with ingredients you buy and cook yourself.

15. It's that easy. Just 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches and 5 dinners or any combination you like. That's leaves 6 meals of flexibility in your life for the times a friend invites you to dinner, lunch with your boss or when you need to have a few unexpected meals out or while traveling – but try to take control of at least 15 meals each week.

Following this habit, has kept me balanced while still being flexible as life's many situations come and go.
