Diabetic Ulcer – Natural Care and Regimen

Published October 06, 2015

Bandaged foot

Nearly 15% of diabetics will develop diabetic sores. These skin ulcers are also known as "diabetic foot ulcers" because they most often appear on the feet; however, they can develop anywhere on the lower body. These sores usually appear due to poor circulation or improper and slow function of the veins, a condition also known as venous stasis. [1] If untreated, sores can give rise to complications that can be as serious as an infection. This infection can lead to amputation of the afflicted toes or foot. Proper care and attention is vital to help avoid complications.

What are Diabetic Ulcers?

When diabetes is present, so is high blood sugar, and this is a problem that weakens the heart and vascular system, leading to poor circulation in the feet and legs. The skin on the feet and legs become weak and susceptible to injury — especially open wounds, aka ulcers.

What Causes Diabetic Ulcers?

Alcohol, tobacco use, obesity, heart disease, and kidney disease are just a few factors that increase the risk of these ulcers. Poor-fitting shoes can also cause blisters on the toes and sole of the foot that can worsen quickly. High blood sugar suppresses immune response, so infection can create complications.

Preventative Measures for Diabetic Foot and Leg Ulcers

For a person who has diabetes, checking their feet and legs every day for new or developing ulcers is critical. Early detection and daily care are absolutely mandatory to ensure quick healing and avoiding serious problems.

Many people also report that washing and moisturizing their feet daily, giving their feet air and changing their socks regularly, wearing comfortable shoes, changing bandages often, and using products that cleanse the skin and deter bacterial and fungal growth are excellent measures for daily preventative care.

Diabetes and Natural Ulcer Remedies

Not only can having diabetes lead to ulcers, it can make it very difficult for the ulcers to heal. In fact, amputation of the toes and feet is a very real end result for many people — about 15%. This underscores the absolute vital importance of daily care and attention.

When a wound begins to develop, keeping the area clean is priority one. Beyond that, I recommend using natural salves to encourage wound healing as they are safe and without the side effects you'll find in a lot of harsh, unnatural products.

Natural, raw organic honey (not the processed stuff) is one ulcer remedy that works great. Researchers have found bandages and dressings soaked in natural honey keep wounds clean, speed healing, and even help to avoid amputations. [2] Olive oil also improves the speed and quality of healing without side effects. [3] Colloidal silver and Chinese herbal applications have also been shown to have positive effects for encouraging fast healing.

Benefits of Using Ozonated Olive Oil for Diabetic Ulcers

One of the most effective methods to keep wounds clean and speed healing is to deliver oxygen right to the affected area, and one of the best ways to do that is with ozonated oils. [4] Research shows increasing oxygen stimulates your skin's natural healing power. [5] Plus, it soothes nerves in the affected area and reduces discomfort, swelling, and redness.

When an ozonated olive oil like O2-Zap® was applied to a deep wound it produced faster healing and reduced wound size compared to oil alone. [6] In my opinion, O2-Zap® is an excellent natural skin solution for a variety of skin concerns. We've received great feedback from people who've used it as a natural remedy for diabetic sores and ulcers.

Have you experienced the positive effects of ozonated olive oil or have another tip for dealing with diabetic sores and ulcers? Please leave a comment and share your story with us.

6 Benefits of Liver Cleansing

Published October 04, 2015

green-juice

Your liver is responsible for processing toxins in the body, so you'll want to keep it working at its best. Sometimes, though, diet or lifestyle can catch up to us, and, if that happens, a liver cleanse becomes necessary. With a cleanse, you'll certainly get rid of all that toxic buildup, but there are lots of other perks as well.

Benefits of Liver Cleansing

Many people disregard liver cleansing, but there are some benefits associated with the practice. Not only does it jump start a healthy eating program, it may also help you lose weight. Just what can liver cleansing do for you? Well, here are just 6 pretty great benefits.

1. Weight Loss

Our livers produce bile, which our digestive systems use to break down fat. And since liver cleansing promotes bile production, detoxing your liver might be just the place to start if you want to lose weight.

2. Immune Support

Since the liver reduces toxins, among other things, it makes sense that a healthy liver is crucial to a strong immune system. [1] [2] Cleansing your liver could even give your immune system a boost.

3. Liver Stones

Liver stones, a product of diet, form because of too much cholesterol. [3] The extra cholesterol makes bile harden into tiny stones that can block the liver and gall bladder; you could even have up to 200 to 300 of these affecting your liver's ability to detox. When you cleanse, though, somewhere between 100 to 300 of the stones could actually be purged from your body.

4. Whole Body Detox

Since the liver removes toxins, turning them into harmless byproducts, there are usually small amounts of toxins in your liver. This is generally not a problem. Issues start, however, when there's a buildup of too many toxins. That's when you need to detox in order to get your liver working exactly as it should.

5. Boosts Energy

Some of the harmless byproducts the liver makes are actually nutrients the body will use. Whether from liver stones or too much toxic build up, some of those nutrients simply won't make it back into the bloodstream. When that happens, your energy levels will likely drop, so liver cleansing will make you feel better because not only will you have all of your nutrients—but also all of your energy.

6. Supports Vitality

Remember that by cleansing the liver, you're restoring it to peak efficiency. Reducing all that toxic buildup will make your skin look brighter and healthier. And since promoting bile production helps with fat breakdown, you'll also tone your body easier and could even look and feel at least five years younger!

So, are you ready to make a change for the better? Well, a liver cleanse might be just the ticket. So, have you ever detoxed your liver? Tell us about it in the comments below.

Food Justice March

Join The Food Justice Coalition as we go to D.C. to fight The DARK Act! Friday will be a day of action and Saturday will be The Food Justice Rally with speakers beginning at noon until 1:30pm.

Food Justice Action: 2-Day Schedule of Events

On Friday, Oct. 16th, Truth in Labeling and Moms Across America are organizing lobbying groups to meet with Senators to lobby for the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act. They are also organizing buses with the option for either a round-trip ride or a one-way ride if you stay over for Saturday.

***Note that we have moved the narrative march portion of this action to Friday, Oct. 16th.*** We believe we will have far more of an impact doing the narrative march while the locations we are targeting are open for business. There will be a second march following the rally on Saturday.

Food Justice March October 2015

Join The Food Justice Coalition as we travel to Washington D.C. to fight The DARK Act! We are tired of being ignored by the very people elected to protect our interests. We march on D.C. to demand answers and action. We will not stand for poison. We will not stand for cronyism. Please help us spread the word and share this video! http://tinyurl.com/JUCTICEMARCH

Posted by March Against Monsanto on Wednesday, September 30, 2015

We ask all participants to meet at Lafayette Park about 3 p.m. We will begin the march at USTR and the Chamber of Commerce. Margaret Flowers and Kevin Zeese will speak about the TPP. Then we’ll head to Monsanto to occupy the building while a presentation is given. We are being a bit quiet on specifics as our groups and event pages have been infiltrated by Monsanto shills, but expect some cool visuals. From the Monsanto building, we will head to the EPA (about 5 p.m., as a point of reference). Zen Honeycutt will speak about glyphosate, recent testing and the EPA's lackadaisical attitude towards a solution. We are asking participants to consider dressing as bees so we can do a bee die-in in the lobby of the EPA. After the EPA, we will head to the White House. Please bring a flashlight so you can help us Shine A Light On The DARK Act. We will have the advantage of rush hour traffic at this point and we believe this unique form of protest will have a stunning visual impact! If you can't make it, but still want to contribute, you can donate here.

On Saturday, October 17th, the Food Justice Rally starts at noon sharp on the West Lawn of the Capitol building. Know that the permit begins at 10am and I encourage you to come early and take part in education workshops that MAMNYC is organizing. I'll be speaking alongside other grassroots activists like Steven Druker and Anthony Gucciardi. After the rally, there will be a unity march through the streets of D.C. ***Please bring flashlights, signs, and any banners you may have!***

Why is this Important?

Monsanto is responsible for tainting our food supply with glyphosate and GMOs. Even worse, Monsanto fights GMO labeling and suppresses your right to know what you’re eating.

How to Detox Your Body of GMOs Right NOW

A while back I sat down with Anthony Gucciardi of Natural Society to discuss the top 10 GMO foods you should avoid.

We also talked about the dangers of genetically modified foods and how you can detox your body.

4 Things That Cause Hair Loss

Published October 01, 2015

Genetics is seen as the biggest factor in hair loss, but the fact is many other factors also play a role. [1] [2] Some of these factors are actually under your control. Just what can you do to promote healthy hair? While there is no research to suggest that you can reverse hair loss by using preventative approaches, you may be able to prevent the progression. Even still, you may have options, and that should be encouraging.

4 Factors Associated with Hair Loss

Research is showing that many controllable factors in our lives can actually override genetics, potentially preventing the genetic tendency of hair loss from expressing itself. Here are 4 things you might not have known could cause hair loss.

1. Gravity

Believe it or not, a recent report suggests that gravity could actually be a factor in male hair loss, and that it only gets worse as men age. The young scalp has enough "fat tissue under the skin, and it is capable of keeping itself well-hydrated, buffering the pressure on hair follicles." [3] As men get older, though, "the skin and underlying fat become thinner, and the pressure on the hair follicles increases." But, this isn't an issue for pre-menopausal women since estrogen doesn’t thin out fat tissue like testosterone does. More so than anything, it’s a game of hormonal imbalance, as well.

2. Stress

Not that surprising, stress makes our list as one of the causes of hair loss. When you're stressed out, hair can go into what's called the telogen phase—basically, it falls out. [4] This process can even happen as much as 3 months after the stressful event! Luckily, that hair can grow back in 6 to 9 months time. But, sometimes, due to things like childbirth or surgery, the body needs a "time-out" from hair growth in order to focus its efforts on recovery. Everyone reacts differently to stress, and, for some of us, hair loss is just one of those things.

3. Smoking

One recent study from the Archives of Dermatology even suggests that age-related hair loss in Asian men could be connected to smoking. [5] Though it's unknown what exactly could lead to hair loss, one theory is that smoking might damage the hair follicles. While the study only looked at smoking among Asian men, quitting smoking might be a great idea for anyone facing hair loss!

4. Dental Infections

That bald patch on your head could even be an unfortunate side effect of poor dental health. Infectious outbreaks on the teeth have been linked to a localized hair loss called alopecia areata. Any unexplained hair loss isolated to one area of the scalp should be cause for concern and could mean you might want to make a trip to the dentist to get those teeth checked out. [6]

Are There Solutions?

So, what’s the solution to hair loss? Well, you don't really have to look that hard to realize the baldness cure marketplace is filled with shysters. Is there any research to back up anything at all? There may be a connection between nutrition and hair loss, particularly with iodine. Researchers seem to believe that hair loss is caused by the conversion of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone, and inhibiting this enzyme responsible for conversion may halt hair loss. This is only a theory, but some research supports it. Also, it seems hair loss could begin and end in the human body. Recently, researchers were able to use human stem cells to grow new hair. [7] This marks a huge step in "the development of a cell-based treatment for people with hair loss."

Do you suffer from hair loss? If so, what do you think about this latest research for a treatment? Tell us about it in the comments.

Does Ozonated Olive Oil Help with Psoriasis?

Published September 30, 2015

woman-with-psoriasis-at-dermatologist

Red, burning, and itchy skin of psoriasis can hinder quality of life. If you or someone you know has it, this isn't an overly surprising statement. According to the National Psoriasis Foundation, 59% of people who suffer from psoriasis report it's a problem that affects all aspects of everyday life, and 33% report the skin condition has a negative impact on their social life. More than half report dissatisfaction with treatment. [1] If you're seeking relief, new research shows ozonated olive oil may be the perfect natural remedy.

What Causes Psoriasis?

Scientists don't know the exact cause of psoriasis, but research indicates it's the result of immune response from genetics. When it does appear, it's often because a medication, a food in your diet, or the environment triggered it. Known triggers include stress, skin injury (like sunburn), vaccinations, scratches, and medications. Medicines known to trigger psoriasis include antimalarial drugs, lithium, quinidine, indomethacin (an NSAID taken for arthritis), and Inderal (a blood pressure med). Infections from an earache, strep, bronchitis, or other respiratory conditions can also cause a flare-up.

What are the Different Types of Psoriasis?

When triggered, psoriasis appears as one or more of these five conditions:

  • Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis. It's caused by a buildup of dead cells that gives a scaly appearance and causes inflamed skin. It appears most often on the elbows, knees, lower back, and scalp.
  • Guttate psoriasis, the second most common type, shows blotchy red marks all over the torso and is often triggered by a strep infection, usually in young adults.
  • Pustular psoriasis consists of tiny white blisters or pustules surrounded by white skin most commonly occurring on the hands and feet. It's not contagious, nor is it an infection.
  • Inverse psoriasis appears under the arm, behind the knee, or in the groin area. It appears smooth, even shiny, and is usually accompanied by another form of psoriasis in another area of the body.
  • Erythrodermic psoriasis is the most dangerous, and its symptoms include fiery redness that covers most if not all of the body. Due to the severity of this condition, you should go and see a doctor immediately if these symptoms describe you.

Scalp Psoriasis Help: Where to Start

Scalp psoriasis afflicts about 50% of those who suffer from psoriasis. It may occur as a mild scaling or a more severe crusting of the entire scalp, behind the ears, and onto the forehead. The process for healing this condition is fairly straightforward and breaks down into three steps – soften, remove, and alleviate.

First, soften the scales. You'll need to apply a salve or lotion for this step. There are a number of over-the-counter options, although many people have found success with ozonated olive oil.

Once softened, the scales can be loosened with a brush or fine comb. To prevent irritation of your already inflamed skin, brush gently or hold the comb at an angle. Next, wash your hair with shampoo that contains salicylic acid.

To reduce the appearance, rub oils or lotions directly into your scalp. Other products may have different instructions for the best effect. If you have a severe case that doesn't respond to this, see your doctor as you may need a more involved treatment.

Ozonated Olive Oil and Psoriasis

For years, olive oil mixtures have proven an effective remedy for irritated, reddened skin. [2] Ozonated olive oil increases the speed and effectiveness of recovery as it cleans and sterilizes your skin, acts as a moisturizing conditioner, and reduces swelling and redness. The ozone triggers the body to create enzymes that regulate skin growth and healing. [3]

Research suggests ozonated olive oil absorbs deep into your skin. It appears to calm nerves and reduce pain and approaches the condition at the cellular level, improving cellular function and cellular memory for better overall healthy skin. For psoriasis sufferers, this could mean faster relief of red patches of itchy skin, inflammation, and scaling.

O2-Zap® Promotes Healthy Skin Conditions

At Global Healing Center, we've gotten exceptionally positive feedback about O2-Zap®. It has helped many people relieve all sorts of skin conditions. Some even use it on their gums or even as a beauty facial mask to moisturize and cleanse. The olive oil nourishes and rehydrates your skin, while the ozone stimulates the skin's natural healing power, leaving your skin rejuvenated and refreshed.
