The biggest news in the food industry

It's official!

West Virginia becomes the first state to ban artificial food dyes from ALL FOOD sold in the state.

Kellogg's, PepsiCo, General Mills, Coca-Cola, Kraft-Heinz, and Mars will all need to remove artificial dyes from their products, just like they did in Europe, if they want to continue selling them in West Virginia. 

This sets the stage for EVERY OTHER STATE to do the same. 

The dominoes are falling!

This is why Big Food lobbyists were doing everything in their power to stop this bill, and they were defeated.

This historic legislation also bans BHA (found in Kool-Aid) and Proplyparaben (found in Betty Crocker icing). 

Food corporations are finally being forced to create the same products for Americans that they sell in other countries with stronger regulations. 

Yet they aren't going to do it without a fight.

Getting the conflicts of interest out of food!

I have 2 interesting updates for you today.

If you're one of the many moms who have written to me expressing your frustration with infant formulas, you're going to really love this first one. 

When I was at the White House last week, several moms discussed the need to make cleaner infant formula available. 

U.S. infant formulas are severely behind on nutrition science compared to the rest of the world - making our babies suffer.

Some American infant formulas have "corn syrup solids" as the first ingredient! 

Moms shouldn't have to import formula from Europe, we should have the best infant formula available in the United States.

HHS Secretary Kennedy said he would make this a priority, and one week later he has already announced a plan to do it:

The FDA is rolling out a comprehensive plan to address the fact that our infant formula is compromised by Big Food interests.

In other news…

Ever wonder why it took the FDA over 30 YEARS to ban Red 3 after it was found to cause cancer?

There are rampant conflicts of interest that have plagued the system for decades. The industry has been effective at hiding this from the public and the media, but the truth is coming out now.

There was an article published earlier this week in KFF Health News downplaying the risks of Red 3 in our food. They quoted the scientist who originally found Red 3 causes cancer in animals as saying:

"I have no problem with my family — my kids and grandkids — consuming Red 3. I stand by the conclusions in my paper that this is not a problem for humans." 

This scientist, Joseph Borzelleca, received significant funding from tobacco companies in the 1980s:

• A 1984 internal memo by tobacco giant RJ Reynolds lists him as an outside consultant for the tobacco industry.
• In 1995, Phillip Morris hired Borzelleca at the rate of $2,000 a day to act as a consultant and sit on their "Scientific Advisory Board."
• Internal memos identified him as a "main spokesman" on scientific issues for the tobacco industry.

The thing is… these aren't just tobacco companies. Tobacco bought up Big Food companies in the 1980s:

• Phillip Morris owned Kraft & General Foods (Kool-Aid, Jell-O, Mac n' Cheese)
• RJ Reynolds owned Nabisco (Oreos and Ritz Crackers)

We need to keep calling out these conflicts of interest when we see them, so the media stops quoting "experts" with financial ties to the industry. 

This corrupt system is why we've seen very little progress to improve our food in the last 50 years. 

Next time you see an "expert" defending the chemicals in our food, always check where their interests lie. If it smells like a rat, it often is.

What happened during my visit to the White House

Someone needs to pinch me, because I almost can't believe this is happening…

I was invited to speak at the White House this week to advocate for safer food for our children.

I was joined by a powerful coalition of moms who all want to get the harmful chemicals out of our food to protect our future generations.

To have this opportunity to expose the truth about how Big Food poisons us with ingredients they don't use overseas was a DREAM COME TRUE.

I had my charts with me to show how billion-dollar corporations like PepsioCo, Kellogg's, Mars, General Mills and Coca-Cola make safer versions of their products to sell in other countries.

You could hear gasps in the room as I went through the ingredient comparisons!

It was extraordinary to sit there across from the Department Secretaries (HHS, USDA, Education) where this is now a major topic of discussion! 

I'm so grateful that we now have leaders at the highest levels of government who are making this a top priority and looking to make changes fast.

This week really felt like a "pinch me" moment because I can't believe how far we've come in just the past few months…

When Kelloggs told me to get off their lawn, I bet they never thought it would lead me to the White House Lawn! 

Everything has been moving so fast, but nothing can stop us now. 

This week I also spoke at the Florida State Capital in support of a bill that will require warning labels on products with artificial dyes, just like they have in Europe. 

The momentum is building and I'm helping every state I can to keep our message FRONT AND CENTER.

Important update, please read- DC food lobbyists are trying to stop us.

I have some incredible updates to share with you about the good food movement. 

I recently testified before the West Virginia State Legislature in support of a bill that will ban artificial dyes, BHA and propylparaben from ALL FOOD sold in the state.

It PASSED the State House and Senate and now food lobbyists are invading the West Virginia capitol trying to prevent the Governor from signing it. 

Please call Governor Patrick Morrisey at (304) 558-2000 in support of House Bill 2354 and demand companies stop poisoning Americans with ingredients they don't use overseas. 

Tell him West Virginia can lead the way and be the catalyst for the other 49 states to do the same. 

We just need one state to set off a domino effect - and he will be thanked by Americans everywhere for this monumental positive change for our entire country. 

This bill will not ban products, it will force food companies to remove dyes just like they did in Europe.

This historic legislation will set the stage for other states, and will change the trajectory of the devastating free-fall of health in this country.

In America, over 7 million children have been diagnosed with ADHD, three-quarters of the population is overweight or obese, and 38% of teens have pre-diabetes!

We must address the root cause of this and it starts with our food!

I'm feeling very hopeful about where we are headed:

26 States currently have pending legislation to ban or regulate artificial dyes.

The FDA finally banned Red #3 from all food sold in the country.

And now, the biggest food corporation of all - PepsiCo, the maker of Doritos, Gatorade, Cheetos, Cap'n' Crunch, and Mountain Dew - announced they're removing artificial dyes from 8 brands under their portfolio.

They haven't specified which brands this will be… 

But they did already reformulate Doritos, Flamin' Hot Cheetos, Ruffles, Cheetos, Gatorade, and Mountain Dew to sell in other countries without dyes. 

They don't need to reinvent the wheel and they need to stop poisoning Americans with ingredients they don't use in other countries.

It's only a matter of time before the entire food industry drops these harmful chemicals too. 

The CEO of Mondelez (maker of Oreo and Ritz) recently went on the record saying that reformulation to European standards is "work that needs to be done" in the U.S. and it's coming.

Our new HHS Secretary, RFK, Jr., met with the heads of major American food corporations on Monday - PepsiCo, Kellogg's, Kraft Heinz, Tyson, Smuckers, and General Mills.

He told them it's a "strong desire and urgent priority" to get all artificial dyes out, and that he wants to work with them, but if they don't take action…he will.

When we took on Kellogg's for using artificial dyes and other ingredients they don't use overseas, it made the whole industry wake up.

This is unethical and Americans aren't going to take it anymore. 

Everything we have been working on is now becoming a reality, and you should feel really proud.

YOU are making this happen. 

Every post you share, your petition signatures, and your boycott of these products is a vote for change and it's happening. 

But we can never let up. 

There is still so much work to be done. 

I was at Natural Products Expo West last week, where I met with several food industry executives and health leaders who are working together to bring more healthy food to our shelves.

I truly believe that we are going to get us out of this mess, but I'm going to continue needing your support.
