When I first started eliminating processed foods from my diet, people thought I was crazy.
They'd tell me I was overreacting and that a little bit of "carrageenan" or "TBHQ" in my food wasn't going to hurt me. But when I stuck with real food I felt a ZILLION times better… I had more energy, slept better, and even lost weight. And that's just what I could see and feel.
There's actually something more sinister at play when it comes to the additives that processed food companies use. All of those synthetic preservatives, dyes, artificial sweeteners and flavors are used to increase profits but do nothing for our health. Even worse - when new studies show that an ingredient might be causing major diseases like cancer, most food companies do NOTHING to change.
New research comes out all the time showing what these additives do to our bodies. Just check out these new scientific findings...
- A common preservative in breads and artificial flavors may lead to obesity and type 2 diabetes. Researchers found that when people ate the additive propionate they exhibited insulin resistance within a few hours, which can lead to type 2 diabetes and obesity over time.
- The preservative TBHQ (commonly found in Reese's PB cups & Cheez-Its) makes it harder to fight the flu virus. Astudy found that eating TBHQ impairs the immune system and specifically can lengthen the time it takes to recover from the flu. This additive isn't always listed on ingredient labels!
- Two common emulsifiers in processed food promote anxiety. Researchers found that polysorbate 80 and cellulose alter gut bacteria, which could lead to anxiety and reduced social behavior.
I've been screaming from the rooftops for years that we need to stop letting the food industry poison us with risky food additives…
Yet most people continue eating what is marketed to us, as long as it's "low fat" "low calorie" "diet" "low carb" or makes some other empty promise on the package.
