Curb your nighttime sweet tooth - This is for you (closes at midnight)

It's Friday, and you know what that means? Two things…

I'm closing enrollment in the 7-Day Sugar Detox tonight at midnight. This is your last chance to get this program. If you have any questions, feel free to email me and I'll get right back to you! If you're ready: Sign up here. You can start anytime once you have the program, so the time is now.

And, secondly, it's time for the next (and last!) health tip for the New Year! To recap… here are the tips I've sent you over the last week - and if you missed any of them, go back into your email and read them!

  • Tip #1 - Eliminate Refined Sugar From Your Diet.
  • Tip #2 - Change Your Grocery Store.
  • Tip #3 - Drink Warm Lemon Water With Cayenne Pepper First Thing In The Morning.
  • Tip #4 - Fast Every Single Day.
  • Tip #5 - Enjoy a Daily Green Drink.
  • Tip #6 - Stop Adding Sugar To Your Coffee.

And now, drumroll please….

Health Tip #7 - Kick Your Nighttime Sugar Cravings

I think nighttime sugar cravings are the absolute worst. And, not much will sabotage your efforts at losing weight and staying healthy than a late-night sugar binge.

There are several strategies that I've used over the years to curb my own sugar cravings (I used to be a major candy ADDICT). Follow these steps and you'll be well on your way to freeing yourself from the nighttime sugar monster!

Eight Steps To Tackling Intense Sugar Cravings:

  1. Clear Your Pantry Of All Sugary Treats and Processed Snacks. If it's not there, you can't eat it! Once you bring a bag of cookies into the house, your willpower will not last - and sooner or later you will come home exhausted, stressed, and the first thing you will reach for are those cookies! Clear any sweets and processed food from your pantry and refrigerator and replace them with simple one-ingredient REAL FOOD snacks – apples, bananas, vegetable sticks, nuts, seeds, boiled eggs. Tell everyone in your family to not bring any sugary junk into the house either, so you won't be tempted!
  2. Get Moving! Exercise releases feel good endorphins that can provide a similar "high" as a sugary or junk food treat can. Not only will you feel better about yourself and the decision you made to be active, but you are also creating new healthy habits by immediately inserting an activity when you feel a craving coming on.
  3. Drink Herbal Tea In The Evenings. One of my all-time favorite rituals is drinking herbal tea – especially at night! I drink hot tea almost every night before bed and it really relaxes me and takes away any cravings. I love mint, ginger, or spicy cinnamon teas, as these are amazing at blasting away sugar cravings. That's because they are naturally sweet without the sugar, and warm and comforting.
  4. Boost Your Serotonin Levels Naturally. Getting a good night's sleep will naturally boost serotonin levels and turn off your hunger hormones. When your body has enough time to recharge you will probably find that your cravings are not as intense. When I don't get enough sleep I want to eat everything in the house! So, do whatever you need to do to make sure that you're sleeping enough each night.
  5. Balance Your Meals. Be sure to include plenty of whole foods that contain healthy fats and protein. Eat lots of greens that are loaded with phytonutrients to help boost energy levels.
  6. Drink Plenty Of Water. You may mistake dehydration as a sugar craving. Try drinking an 8 ounce glass of water and waiting 10-15 minutes before eating. You can also slice some fresh fruit or veggies into the water to add a boost of flavor. Lemons, limes, oranges or cucumbers are just a few that taste great.
  7. Eat More Fermented Foods. This may be one of the BEST ways to fight cravings. Eat fermented kimchi, miso, kombucha, and sauerkraut each day. These increase healthy good bacteria in the gut, which is also being studied in regards to its role in weight gain - some research indicates that bad bacteria promotes obesity, while good bacteria fights it. Plus, fermented foods can also help to eliminate excess sugar in your body by feeding on it.
  8. Buddy Up With A Friend! Sometimes just talking about your cravings with someone in the same situation is all you need to stay on track. If you know that someone is holding you accountable and rooting you on, it's much easier to stick to your goals and be successful!

That's why I built a support system into my 7-Day Sugar Detox Program. As soon as you join, you'll get to join our private Facebook group and private online forum, where you can connect with other members on the Sugar Detox. This is a place where we privately share our experiences without judgment – since a lot of us are all facing the same type of struggles and bad food cravings! We answer questions and share our success stories. When you surround yourself with people who share the same goals and help to keep you accountable, you will succeed.

I invite you to join us here now.

This program provides the plan, the support, and the community you need to ditch refined sugar in a way that makes it practically impossible to fail! You'll receive detailed online guides and videos to walk you through the 7-Day Sugar Detox, along with all the personal support you need. You'll know exactly what to eat, what not to eat and what to do after the detox is over. I'll give you real life emergency strategies for when you feel like you can't live without sugar and have crazy uncontrollable cravings.

Sign up for the 7-Day Sugar Detox by midnight - I'll send everything to your email instantly.

If you have any friends or family members who struggle with sugar cravings, please forward this email to them. Perhaps you can "buddy up" and support each other on the journey to cut out sugar together!

Vani

P.S. This program has been life-changing for many people. Here's what some have to say…

"My sugar intake was out of control! My worst time of day was from 8PM to 10PM, when I couldn't inhale enough cookies and/or dark chocolate truffles and/or ice cream. Every night I had to have something sweet. Then when I saw the Food Babe's message about the Sugar Detox, I knew that it was time to make another healthy change to my diet. The best part was getting on the scale and finding that I had lost 4 pounds! I am extremely motivated now, and even started to exercise. All in all, I am trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and have confidence that I'll be able to continue to eat good foods!" - Lesli

"I am 85 and my husband is 87 and we have both just completed our 7-day Sugar Detox. To date he has lost 5-lbs. and I have lost 2.5-lbs., although I have more to lose than he, proportionately. We have both noticed our desire for sweets has pretty well disappeared and I in particular, have been addicted to sugar my entire life. Also, strangely enough, my arthritic hip seems to be much better. The best and most immediate result of the Sugar Detox Diet was instead of lying awake for hours during the night, I now get a full 8 hours sleep and it's wonderful." - Greta

"I have actually tamed the "sugar craving beast" in me! This program has changed the way I think about the processed baked goods. I feel so empowered to have conquered the Sugar demon that now I can tell everyone about it! I am so happy to have discovered this program and this way of life." - Julia

"My husband and I are absolutely loving it! We never feel hungry and the sugar cravings have virtually vanished!... We are going to continue eating this way forever! Thank you for the kick start!" - Lori

Closes tomorrow + one more life changing habit

Even when you eat healthy, sugar always finds a way to creep in, doesn't it?

I once asked several people to track their sugar intake and report back to me. Here were the results...

"Out of curiosity I counted my simple, what I thought was healthy, Organic Vanilla yogurt, Organic honey, & GF Chex granola breakfast…. wait for it…. 66 grams of sugar!!!!!!!!!  What the???? Had NO idea! Never gave it a thought. Thank you! I think." – Brooke

"Wow, my appetite is down and I must have had almost 46 grams of sugar today! Some of that was from a teaspoon of raw honey in my tea and from a smoothie made with 1/2 a 450ml Bolton Farms Blueberry Goodness and a banana. I also had 14 oz of lentil soup with a tsp of balsamic vinegar added. For dessert, a Kashi Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cookie and two coconut wrapped date rolls and 12 oz of unsweetened almond milk." – Ted

"I was averaging about 45 grams of sugar a day, then today at work someone brought a ginormous gift basket of a variety of cookies (chocolate chip walnut, peanut butter, oatmeal, etc.). While I was still full from breakfast I was fine at turning it down. Then when lunch time hit and we were all on break I fought in my head back and forth and decided to let myself have one. Cuz I was hungry. And didn't have any food with me. They were convenient, free, everyone was eating them, they looked, smelled, and tasted delicious, "I've been so good for so long," etc. etc. I was done for. I ended up having 3 more. And then felt sick afterwards. Today my sugar count is at 105 grams. It's crazy how addicting sugar and white flour is. And how slippery that slope is." – Tristan

Can you see yourself in these stories? We've all been there.

To give you a baseline, most experts recommend the average person eat no more than 25 grams (women) or 38 grams (men) of added sugar per day - but most eat WAY MORE than this!

As it's the New Year and I want to help you develop healthy habits, I opened up my impactful and effective program - Food Babe 7-Day Sugar Detox - at 75% OFF and closes tomorrow.

It takes all of the guesswork out of what to eat, what to avoid, and how to keep sugar cravings from ruining your best intentions! Here's what it includes:

  • Quick Start Guide
  • 7-Day Sugar Detox Plan
  • 7-Day Sugar Detox Recipe Guides
  • Private Sugar Detox Facebook Group
  • Success Journal
  • Exclusive Instructional Videos
  • Maintaining Your Success After The Detox Guide
  • Check out everything in detail here!

And, this brings me to my next health tip this week, which also gives you a little preview of the type of information included in program…

Healthy Habit #6: Stop Adding Sugar To Your Coffee

Do you add sugar to your coffee at home? Perhaps you run by a coffee shop to pick up a latte on the way to work or reward yourself with a mocha in the afternoon? Do you know how much sugar is in these drinks?

Here's a little breakdown:

  • Starbucks Oatmilk Honey Latte (Grande) = 28 grams sugar
  • Dunkin Donuts Caramel Swirl Cappuccino (Medium) = 47 grams sugar
  • McCafe Iced French Vanilla Latte (Medium) = 34 grams sugar
  • Homemade coffee (2 Tbsp half & half and 3 tsp sugar) = 14 grams sugar

Talk about a sugar hangover! Try stirring one of these in your coffee instead...

  • Cinnamon – Adds a hint of sweetness and also provides the immune system with a boost! Just sprinkle a little bit on top, stir it into the grounds before brewing, or stick in a cinnamon stick.
  • Nut Milk, Coconut Milk, Coconut Cream or Organic Cream – Adds an instant full-bodied feel to your coffee. Coconut is naturally sweet and will sweeten your coffee without refined sugar. I like to add my homemade coconut milk to a milk frother before adding it to my coffee (and then topping it with cinnamon). The frother really helps to add creaminess – you'll never miss the dairy creamers! For extra flavor, you can add a bit of vanilla extract to create your own homemade vanilla dairy-free creamer.
  • Unsweetened Cocoa or Cacao Powder – Enhances the subtle notes in the beans and has also been shown to provide important antioxidants which can increase the overall quality of your morning coffee. A small amount can be stirred into the coffee itself or into the grounds before brewing.
  • Vanilla Extract or Almond Extract – Naturally sweet on its own and is an amazing way to wean yourself off of using added sugar or sweeteners. Just stir in a couple drops.
  • Grass-fed butter + Coconut oil – Creates a natural creaminess especially when you blend it into your coffee with a hand blender (don't just stir it in). It is known for boosting energy.
  • Sea Salt – Seems counter intuitive, but as salt reduces bitterness, your coffee will seem sweeter without any sugar. Just be sure to only add a tiny pinch (either to the grounds before brewing or to the entire pot) and don't go overboard or your coffee will taste salty!

I've tried all these - and they WORK! - I haven't had to put sugar in my coffee since. If you are used to the hyper-sweetened drinks from coffee shops these might take a little bit of time to get used to, but I know from personal experience that when you start implementing these healthier substitutes your body will start to crave them – and the cravings for sugar become less and less.

Remember, enrollment in the 7-Day Sugar Detox closes TOMORROW (Friday) at midnight. If you want to truly feel your best in the New Year, this program takes the cake! Sugar-free cake, that is :)  Just think of how great you will feel. Your body will thank you for taking good care of it.

Make sure you check your email tomorrow, as I'll be sending over my last health tip for the New Year. And, trust me, you don't wanna miss it.

Xo,

Vani

It's hard to quit sugar, here's help

Wowza! I opened up my email yesterday and was thrilled to find so many kind words from y'all!

I'm glad that you've been implementing the health tips I've been sending since the start of the New Year - and some of you are already feeling the results… like fewer sugar cravings!

This is incredible because sugar is something that almost all of us struggle with. It's the NUMBER ONE thing that people write to me about.

That's why I opened up enrollment in my 7-Day Sugar Detox Program and would LOVE to have you on board! Sign up here, enrollment closes on Friday.

If you've tried to quit sugar in the past with no luck, don't blame yourself. The real problem is NOT your willpower...

I will show you that you CAN win the battle against sugar. You CAN finally take control of your cravings. This will allow you to enjoy more energy, fewer mood swings, and lose weight. You don't need to starve yourself. You don't need to eat processed, pre-packaged "sugar-free" foods. All you need is this simple, step-by-step plan that's worked for over 4,000 people.

It's absolutely life changing to be so in tune with your body that you immediately know how to feed it for its optimum energy and vitality. When people around you are eating nutritionally-dead foods like Chick-Fil-A, you don't even get the slightest bit tempted because you know what it would do to your energy, your liver and your well being. To have this insight, is such a great gift. I hope you find this too.

After research and my own experience, I've come to this conclusion – If you are craving something, you are not getting enough of something else – figure out what it is! And don't stop until you do.

Which brings me to my health tip for today that will help you IMMEDIATELY with sugar cravings and you can start right away…

Healthy Habit #5: Enjoy a Daily Green Drink.

By "green drink", I mean drinking a smoothie or a juice made mostly from kale, romaine lettuce, spinach, and other leafy veggies…

This is the best fast food available and a superb way to add more veggies to your diet. I've found, too, that green drinks alleviate bad food cravings because they provide a burst of nutrition – one that's not usually present in the typical American diet.

When your body doesn't get what it needs nutritionally speaking, cravings kick in. Once you start to pump your body with greens, you'll start craving them instead!

Ready to give it a try?

Three Ways To Make A Green Drink:

  1. GREEN JUICE: To make green juice you use a juicer that extracts the pulp/fiber from the produce. When juice is separated from the fiber, it is easier for your body to absorb all of the nutrients, giving you an instant boost of energy. It also zaps away sugar cravings. All you will need is a good juicer and a batch of organically grown produce. When juicing, it is very important to remember to keep the fruit juice to a minimum – my general rule is NO fruit at all or one small piece of fruit per 12 ounce juice (such as half an apple).
  2. GREEN SMOOTHIE: To make a smoothie, you use a blender and leave the fiber intact, so you're eating the entire vegetable or fruit. This will provide a healthy hefty dose of fiber, vitamins, minerals, live enzymes, and phytonutrients. All of these nutrients boost your antioxidant intake and enhance your body's natural detoxification process. Simply take a large handful of leafy greens and throw it right in your blender along with a bit of frozen fruit (usually berries, as these are low in sugar) and some good fat and protein (like chia and hemp seeds).
  3. WHEATGRASS SHOT: The simplest way to have a green drink is to knock back a shot of wheatgrass juice, but let me warn you...it's going to be strong in taste, so it's not for the faint of heart. Wheatgrass is one of the best sources of living chlorophyll available and a mere ounce is the nutritional equivalent of two pounds of dark green leafy vegetables!

BONUS TIP: Swish the juice or smoothie in your mouth or move your jaw up and down for a couple of seconds before swallowing. This will release saliva, which contains important digestive enzymes that are crucial in delivering key nutrients to your cells. Don't just slam down a smoothie or juice – you need that chewing action for digestive enzymes to do their magic!

I'm sharing these health tips with you because they can change your life, as they have mine. I now look in the mirror and see this glow that was never there during years where I didn't love my body or myself. Miracles can happen, when you take care of yourself.

If you have any questions about my 7-Day Sugar Detox Program, simply reply to this email and I'll get back to you. And, remember enrollment closes on Friday…

Sign up here. I'll send the entire program to your email instantly.

Xo,

Vani

Why I stop eating at 7pm

Have you implemented any of the health tips I've sent over the last few days? Hit reply to this email and let me know. I get so encouraged when I hear from people changing their lives with healthy habits like these!

It's now time to move on to the next healthy habit in my arsenal…

Healthy Habit #4: Fast Every Single Day

You might be thinking… Say what? Fast every single day?! That's insanity.

But it's not – especially when you are only fasting for HALF of the day and most of this time you are sleeping.

To adopt this habit, you will "fast" (which means to go without food) for at least 12 hours per day, from the time you eat your last meal until the time you "break" the "fast" with breakfast. This is a form of "intermittent fasting" that you may have heard about. It might be trending right now, but I've been doing this for well over 10 years now. Following this habit is extremely easy for me and can be easy for you too.

This is my schedule...

  • I try to keep my last meal somewhere between 7pm and 8pm, go to sleep around 11pm.
  • Then I wake up early to workout and "break the fast" by eating my first meal at or about 8:30am or 9am.
  • Finding the right time frames might be different for you based on your schedule.

Here's why it helps you:

It takes at least 8 hours for your body to completely digest its meals from the day. If you add in another 4 hours to that time without introducing more food to digest, the body actually goes into detoxification mode and has more time to remove dead and dying cells from the body. During this "idle" time, the body also stimulates the development and regeneration of new cells. Aging occurs when more cells die than are being produced. Allowing your body sufficient time every single day to digest, eliminate dying cells and develop new cells is a habit that will get you closer to drinking straight out of the fountain of youth!

More Incredible Benefits of "Intermittent" Fasting –

  • Improved Fat Burning: When you fast for 12 hours, your body has to use up stored glucose for fuel, burning excess fat off your body.
  • The Brain Can Fight Stress Better: 12-hour fasts give the brain a chance to fight the chemical byproducts of stress. They also help the mind to re-focus and improve memory and sensory perception.
  • Promotes Heart Health: 12-hour fasts lower the body temperature, blood pressure, heart rate and increase your good cholesterol.

One of the most amazing things I immediately noticed after I adopted this habit was that I woke up with more energy and felt much better rested.

Another thing that gave me a ton of ENERGY was breaking my addiction to refined sugar...

After you break the cycle of endless sugar consumption, you will no longer feel like you are living on an energy-sucking roller coaster. Sugar makes your blood sugar go sky-high – a reaction followed immediately by plummeting blood sugar. That crash and burn triggers feelings of irritability, depression, and leaves you exhausted until you get your next sugar fix.

I want everyone to know how good it feels when you stop eating refined sugar. That's why I created the 7-Day Sugar Detox Program, which has helped thousands of people get off the sugar roller coaster and take back their health and energy levels.

I opened up enrollment in this program through Friday only: DETAILS HERE

Even if you can't start right away, no worries! You'll have access to the entire program, the guides, recipes, meal plans, videos and the private group, for life - so you can start any time that is convenient for you. But, you do need to sign up now before we close it on Friday.

Here's to breaking the fast and waking up feeling lighter, more rested and re-energized in the New Year and Beyond!

Xo,

Vani

P.S. Tomorrow, I'll send you my next healthy habit… and to give you a hint it has to do with something we all do at night. Can you guess what that is?

I do this EVERY morning

If you've been following along since the start of the New Year, I began sharing 7 HEALTH TIPS that have changed my life. I'm sending one new habit to your email each day, and now it's time to share Habit #3! And as it's the start of the week, it just feels like the right time to share how I start off each morning…

Healthy Habit #3 - Drink Warm Lemon Water With Cayenne Pepper First Thing In The Morning.

Maintaining this daily habit has AMAZING health benefits...

Imagine getting sick less, feeling lighter, having regular eliminations, clearer skin, more energy and having a boost in your metabolism leading to weight loss over time.

How does it work? Drinking lemon water on an empty stomach provides a super stimulant to the liver, your main detoxifying organ in the body. Your liver will release uric acid and create bile to safely eliminate environmental and lifestyle toxins that would otherwise be trapped in your digestive system longer. The liver is at its most active in the morning, and the lemon helps speed up the elimination of toxins. Don't be surprised if you have to go to the bathroom quickly; this indicates the habit is working.

As you may know, keeping your liver and digestive system clean and in optimal condition will help your body prevent diseases like cancer in the future. The liver has hundreds of vital functions that support health and a healthy liver can support clearer eyes, healthier skin, a better attitude, and a more balanced weight.

Combining cayenne with lemon increases the detoxing effect and raises the temperature of your body increasing your metabolism. Drinking this combination will cleanse your body every single day safely and naturally.

How To Make Your Morning Lemon Water:

  1. Prepare the night before: Every night, fill your tea pot with filtered water and take one lemon from the fridge and place it on the counter. Place your cayenne pepper bottle on the counter along with a cup filled halfway with water next to your lemon.
  2. As soon as you get up in the morning: Turn your kettle on to heat up the water for a few minutes. Pour the heated kettle water into your cup that is already half full with room temperature water.
  3. Add lemon and cayenne to your water: Using a lemon squeezer, squeeze one half of the lemon into the water and sprinkle with a dash of cayenne pepper (optional), and drink.
  4. Sip this mixture with a glass straw so that your teeth aren't exposed to the acid. Drink at least 12 ounces, followed by another 8 ounces of filtered plain water afterwards, before you eat or drink anything else.

One of the most incredible benefits I've noticed is that this habit curbs my cravings for sugar…

My sugar cravings used to be through the ROOF! People used to call me the queen of candy, because I always had some on me.

I've since learned to incorporate healthy habits, such as my morning lemon water habit, which tackled my intense sugar cravings. It's incredible that something as SIMPLE as this would make such a huge difference, but it really does.

If you want to beat a sugar addiction for good, I just opened up enrollment in my 7-Day Sugar Detox Program: DETAILS HERE

I give you my proven menu for curbing sugar cravings and resetting your taste buds. All of your food decisions are mapped out for you. The meal plan, shopping list, and recipe guide tell you exactly what to eat. I'll give you easy swaps for addicting sugary foods and drinks, keeping your cravings satisfied. You have me… my team… and fellow "detoxers" in our private Facebook group cheering you on. I can't tell you how much it helps to have a support team on your side.

This one has to do with WHEN to eat (and really helps with sugar cravings too!)

Xo,

Vani

Don't shop here.

As I let you know yesterday, I'm sending 7 life changing habits for you to start in the new year, and I sent the first one yesterday… So, if you missed it, go back and find yesterday's email and make sure you read it because it's a GOOD one! And, it really sets you up for success for the rest of these tips that I'm about to send you.

Moving on to the next tip...

Healthy Habit #2: Change Your Grocery Store

Changing where I buy my groceries to a place where I can get the best quality food and produce has been fundamental in changing my health for the better. Typical large wholesale stores and conventional supermarkets are stocked with so many bad additives and unhealthy ingredients it can make your head spin.

Some conventional grocery stores include organic produce and organic convenience foods - but, they still carry Kellogg's, Little Debbie, Doritos, Pepsi, Coca-Cola, General Mills, and all the BIG FOOD brands that are full of anything but real food. This makes shopping there 10 times harder because you need to filter out all those bad products and unless you know a brand and trust it - it means reading lots of labels and deciphering chemical names of ingredients.

Here's what to do instead…

  • Look for local health food stores and alternative grocery stores in your town. Some stores now ban certain ingredients from ever hitting their shelves – such as really serious ingredients like growth hormones in dairy products that are known to cause cancer and high fructose corn syrup that is linked to diabetes and obesity.
  • You don't even need to go into a grocery store on a regular basis – you can go to the farmer's market to get local and organic produce or grow your own food as much as possible.
  • And sometimes, you don't even need to leave your house. Buying organic staples on the internet is a terrific way to save money and time. This is especially helpful if you live in a more rural area and don't have natural grocery stores nearby. I can buy organic pantry items online for up to half the price of most natural food stores. This can add up to big savings over time and is well worth the click. I buy organic coconut oil, pasta, rice, spices, nuts, dried fruit and various organic snacks on the internet all the time.

Bottom line: Support establishments that want you to be well! Vote with your dollars. And shop smart.

And remember, if you want to do something that will make a big impact on your health in the New Year, I opened up my 7-Day Sugar Detox Program. If you sign up today, you'll have all weekend to prepare and familiarize yourself with the materials, watch the videos, and plan a time to get started. Maybe you ask a friend or get your whole family on board too. You can start the program at any time, but you only have ONE week to sign up before I close the enrollment.

Here's wishing you a great weekend… and I'll be back on Monday with another habit.

To give you a hint, this one is about starting your morning off right!

Talk soon…

Vani

So without further ado...

Healthy Habit #1: Eliminate Refined Sugar From Your Diet.

Let me clarify: I am not asking you to eliminate every type of "sugar" from your diet. That would simply set anyone up for failure.

This habit entails eliminating refined sugars, such as white sugar, brown sugar, high fructose corn syrup, and corn syrup. Avoiding refined sugars while still enjoying natural sugars (i.e. fruit) in moderation is one of the keys to ultimate balance in life.

Refined sugar is acid forming in the body because it has been chemically stripped of its minerals. The natural minerals in whole foods are important for our body's ability to process nutrients in food and to ultimately keep our bodies alkaline - and a body in an alkaline state is primed to avoid disease and a myriad of other ailments.

STEP 1 - Don't buy, consume or keep products in your house with the following ingredients in them:

sugar, cane sugar, brown sugar, carob syrup, corn syrup, corn-syrup solids, dextrose, fructose, glucose, glucose solids, high-fructose corn syrup, invert sugar, malt syrup, maltodextrin, maltose, maltitol, raw sugar, refiner's syrup, sorbitol, sorghum syrup, sucrose, and turbinado sugar.

This doesn't mean you can replace these sugars with artificial sweeteners like aspartame, saccharin, and sucralose. Those are off limits too! They are just as bad for the body and some of them are linked to cancer. (Note: If you're diabetic, stevia and xylitol are your best options.)

Food Babe approved sugar sources include these organic items: fruit, coconut palm sugar, raw honey, maple syrup, date sugar, and dried fruit. The key here is to still include those forms of  "sugar" in your diet, as your body can easily assimilate them and these sources also provide nutrients, minerals and vitamins your body will use.

STEP 2 - Continuously train your palate for natural sweetness:

Before you reach for something sweet – think about the natural options available that will satisfy your sweet tooth, such as fruit or dried fruit. The satisfaction you get from natural foods will exceed their processed counterparts. Eventually, you'll develop a distaste for refined sugar and your desire for ultimate nutrition will become intuitive. What a wonderful habit to develop and keep for life, no?

Here are some satisfying trades I make when I crave something sweet –

  • When I crave chocolate – I make a smoothie with Truvani Chocolate Protein, which contains zero refined sugar.
  • When I crave something fruity – I eat a couple dried organic fruits – like mangos, apricots, prunes, cherries, golden berries, dates, goji berries and figs. Sometimes I will mix it with unsweetened coconut flakes. Dried coconut has a natural sweetness to it – but has less than one gram of sugar per serving.
  • When I crave something chewy, warm and comforting – I make homemade cookies sweetened only with bananas, dates, or coconut palm sugar. Also – I like to make warm brown rice pudding with unsweetened almond milk and a little honey or maple syrup.
  • When I want ice cream or something cold – I eat a bowl of frozen grapes or cherries.
  • When I crave something salty and sweet – I make eat pieces of sprouted wheat pretzels dipped in raw cacao chocolate.

Get the gist? See how easy that is?

If you develop this habit and practice it on a regular basis, you'll be less likely to go overboard when tempted with traditional desserts. Ahhh…I can hear your response now when someone asks you if you want that Double Stuffed Oreo – "that's just a little too sweet for me, no thanks!"
